Emirates and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) have reinforced their collaboration to promote the Maldives as a top travel destination, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025 in Dubai. The agreement was sealed by Essa Sulaiman Ahmad, Emirates’ Senior Vice President for Commercial Operations, West Asia and Indian Ocean, and Ibrahim Shiuree, MMPRC’s CEO and Managing Director, with Tourism and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim in attendance.
Since starting services to the Maldives in 1987, Emirates has been a major driver of the nation’s tourism, carrying roughly 360,000 passengers last year. The renewed partnership will utilize Emirates’ global network to boost inbound tourism through targeted marketing campaigns, customized travel packages, and partnerships with tour operators and travel agencies. Key markets like the UAE, UK, US, Russia, and Germany will be focal points, with familiarization trips planned to highlight the Maldives’ 26 atolls, luxury resorts, pristine beaches, and water-based activities.
“This agreement builds on our long history with the Maldives,” said Essa Sulaiman Ahmad. “We’re committed to bringing more travelers to its stunning shores.”
Ibrahim Shiuree stated, “With Emirates’ worldwide reach and our destination expertise, we’ll ensure the Maldives remains a top pick for global travelers.”
Emirates operates 28 weekly flights to the Maldives using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, with plans to introduce retrofitted Boeing 777s featuring Premium Economy cabins in June. The airline also supports the Maldives’ trade through cargo services, fostering economic growth. Its efforts were recognized in 2022 with the President’s Tourism Gold Award for significant contributions to Maldivian tourism.
The partnership will promote the Maldives’ unique offerings, from marine adventures to high-end accommodations, while exploring trade opportunities. By leveraging Emirates’ extensive connectivity, the MoU aims to strengthen the Maldives’ position as a premier leisure destination worldwide.
